Review highlights

Based on 659 reviews

Lara's Spice Kitchen in Petaling Garden is widely appreciated for its authentic South Indian cuisine, boasting rich flavors and traditional preparations that resonate well with diners. The banana leaf rice and unique dishes like the Valaka Poriyal receive particular praise for their taste and texture. Customers often note the restaurant’s friendly service and good value, complemented by convenient free street parking. However, some feedback highlights inconsistencies such as occasional oiliness in certain dishes and limited lunchtime menu options, especially for items like roti and thosai. While most dishes are enjoyed, a few find the portion sizes or ingredient distribution, like chicken in rice dishes, to be lacking. Overall, the restaurant is seen as a solid choice for flavorful, traditional Indian meals in a casual setting.

good pitstop if NPE logjam prevents further progress. every item on banana leaf is excellent, with the mushroom-bean stir-fry taking pride of place. prawn sambal is tasty enough, but lacks snap and liveliness. briyani is better than mutton in it, which is strangely not at same temperature. that said, still tasty and tender.

Exceptional South Indian Cuisine – A Must-Try! Best in town The food was simply delightful, offering an authentic taste of South India. Each dish was prepared with great care, showcasing rich flavors and traditional recipes. A standout was their unique Valaka Poriyal (raw banana fry), which was incredibly crispy and flavorful—a true treat for the taste buds! It was my first time trying it, and I was thoroughly impressed. For anyone seeking genuine South Indian cuisine with exceptional taste and quality, this restaurant is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

I ordered the Nasi Goreng Ayam for RM12, but I was quite disappointed. The chicken was scarce, with only small pieces scattered throughout the dish, which made it not worth the price. While the rest of the dish, including the poori, was nice, the lack of chicken really took away from the overall experience. I expected more for the price I paid.

The shop isn't big but pretty occupied and pack during lunch time. You won't able to order roti/thosai/nasi goreng/apam etc during lunchtime. They only serve rice with dishes during lunchtime. Also, I enjoyed their ayam Kampung soup and moringha soup! Their banana leave rice is RM11 per portion. It was decent but some were really oily. Mutton varuval is soft and nice better than the chicken varuval. Their ayam berempah was small in pieces and not even crispy, that cost RM7 per piece :x Apam was good and crispy! Overall not a bad place for some spice if you are nearby:)) roti telur wasnt crispy though. Kesari is alright. Masala tea is alittle diluted for my personal liking.

Stumbled upon this spot via google map and this is one of the good spot to have banana leaf rice. This place is packed with local and is packed most of the time. Fried food are prepared and cooked fresh upon ordered. The side dishes of vegetables are good and fresh as well. Totally recommended spot to have banana leaf rice.

⭐⭐⭐ Went back after 10 months, but the experience was disappointing. Most of the food was served cold, even the rice. When I mentioned it to the waiter, he explained it was due to the aircond upstairs, which shouldn’t be an excuse. The crab curry also tasted different and lacked the kick it had before. Overall, quite dissatisfied compared to my previous visit. (11/2024) Visited Lara’s Spice Kitchen in Petaling Jaya for a banana leaf meal, and it was absolutely delightful! Tried the crab curry, which was spicy but so flavorful – really enjoyed it. The pasupal tea was a nice touch too. Despite the place being crowded, the staff were very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Their dedication to service truly stood out. Definitely planning to come back again in the future! Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic, spicy flavors.
